On AlertAs I was travelling back to Abu Dhabi after another long day in Dubai where I now work, there was a police check point on the highway. I first thought it was another stupid accident but as I was getting closer to the police cars, I could see people stepping out of their cars and getting checked and presenting their ID and such....The last time I saw something like that was in Kenya, when I was heading to the airport to go back to Canada.
It was my turn now to stop the car, and step outside. I asked the police officer of what was going on, he gave me a very dirty look and asked me for my ID and asked why I was heading to Abu Dhabi...when I told him that I am working in Dubai and living in Abu Dhabi, he got more suspicious. I asked again of the reason for all this stand by, I even asked him if there was a terrorist attack that took place anywhere close to UAE. He looked at me in amazement and asked me where I work, when I told him I was a filmmaker.....he laughed!!! what a bastard!!!
After my ID was cleared by the other cop, he told me that there was an armed robbery that took place last night in Dubai where four guys robbed a jewelry store and killed the security guards and fled the scene without a trace!
I mean if an armed robbery would put a city on alert, imagine a more complicated situation, God forbid!
